Japan Imagined

Japan Imagined

90 SEK
Japan Imagined. Japan was, at the end of the 19th century, viewed as the mythical country far away - a popular, exotic place that inspired many Western artists of the time. Everything Japanese that looked different attracted the imagination. However, was this the real country of Japan or just a dreamscape? Newlywed Ida Trotzig moved to Kobe in 1888 and was given the task of describing what life in Japan was really like. The photographs were taken by Japanese photographers in the decades around 1900. They tell a story of the old Japan while the country, at the same time, was modernized and industrialized. For orders outside Sweden please e-mail biblioteket@ostasiatiskamuseet.se
